What is the best time of year to paint the exterior of my home in South Carolina?

That said, Upstate South Carolina's mild climate allows us to work year-round during suitable weather windows. We monitor forecasts closely and won't paint in conditions that compromise quality.

How long does exterior paint typically last before needing to be redone?

With proper preparation and premium paint, you can expect 7-10 years before repainting. Factors that affect longevity include sun exposure (south-facing walls fade faster), surface material, color choice (darker colors fade more visibly), and the quality of prep work. Our thorough preparation process maximizes paint life.

How do you prepare surfaces before applying exterior paint?

We start with pressure washing to remove dirt, mildew, and loose paint. Then we scrape and sand any remaining loose areas, caulk gaps around windows and trim, prime bare wood and stains, and repair damaged siding or trim. This prep work is what separates a paint job that lasts from one that fails early.

What types of siding do you install, and which is best for South Carolina homes?

We install James Hardie fiber cement, LP SmartSide engineered wood, and vinyl siding. For South Carolina's humidity and temperature swings, fiber cement offers the best combination of durability, moisture resistance, and aesthetics. It resists rot, termites, and fire while holding paint longer than wood alternatives.

How long should I wait before staining a new pressure-treated deck?

How often does a deck need to be re-stained?

Signs it's time include water no longer beading on the surface, visible graying or fading, and the wood feeling dry or rough. Regular maintenance staining is far less expensive than deck replacement.

What happens if rain is forecasted during our exterior project?

We monitor weather forecasts daily and plan accordingly. Exterior paint needs 4-6 hours of dry conditions to cure properly. If rain threatens, we'll either adjust our schedule, focus on protected areas, or pause work until conditions improve. We never rush application in marginal weather—it's not worth the callback.
